AeroVironment has announced the debut of MAYHEM 10, a new multi-role launched effects system designed for deployment from air, ground, and maritime platforms. The system was unveiled at the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) 2026 summit on April 15.

MAYHEM 10 is an autonomous, multi-role system developed to support a wide range of mission requirements through a modular payload architecture. The system is designed to accommodate interchangeable lethal and non-lethal payloads, including ISR; electronic warfare; communications relay; and precision strike. According to the company, the modular design allows operators to tailor and adapt payloads as operational conditions evolve.

“MAYHEM 10 sets a new standard for operational versatility and survivability on the modern battlefield,” said Wahid Nawabi, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at AV.

“By integrating advanced autonomy, multi-domain payloads, and rapid adaptability, we empower our forces to sense, disrupt, and strike with precision – even in the most contested environments. This breakthrough allows commanders to extend their reach, accelerate decision-making, and maintain superiority without putting crews or high-value assets at unnecessary risk.”

Building on the company’s Switchblade® loitering munition family, MAYHEM 10 is designed for use in contested environments. The system features a 10-pound (4.5 kg) payload capacity, an operational range of up to 100 kilometers, and an endurance of up to 50 minutes. AV states that the system can be assembled and launched in under five minutes.

The system is built using a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), enabling payload upgrades, third-party integration, and system evolution over time. MAYHEM 10 is controlled through AV’s Tomahawk Grip controller and the AV_Halo™ COMMAND interface, supporting networked and distributed operations. The company says the system can be deployed individually or in collaborative swarms, allowing multiple effects to be executed simultaneously and adapted to changing threat environments.

“MAYHEM 10 changes how forces generate combat power by enabling collaborative swarm operations at scale,” said Brian Young, Senior Vice President of Loitering Munitions at AV. “Operators can employ multiple systems to work collaboratively – expanding coverage, overwhelming defenses, and executing synchronized effects across the battlespace – without increasing platform risk or force concentration.”

MAYHEM 10 features a removable forward modular payload section, allowing for rapid integration of third-party payloads. The system is supported by a self-contained launcher designed to enable deployment by dismounted forces, mobile ground units, air-mounted platforms, and vehicle-mounted configurations.

Advanced autonomy is enabled by an AI-driven onboard processor, which AV says supports operations in contested and degraded environments. The system is designed to operate with resilience to jamming, spoofing, and navigation-denied conditions. Secure navigation and communications are supported through M-Code GPS and a Silvus datalink, while a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) secure mesh network provides command-and-control connectivity with a reported link range of 25 to 40 kilometers.

According to AeroVironment, MAYHEM 10 is designed to provide extended standoff capability across air, ground, and maritime platforms, allowing operators to detect and engage threats at range while projecting sensing and effects more than 100 kilometers forward. The system supports multiple mission profiles within a single platform, including intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, electronic warfare and disruption, deception and decoy operations, communications relay, and precision strike. These effects can be delivered using up to 10 pounds of configurable lethal or non-lethal payloads without requiring changes to launch concepts or deployment methods.

The system is intended to be employed either individually or in coordinated swarms, enabling forces to expand coverage, overwhelm or confuse adversary defenses, and execute multiple effects simultaneously. AV states that AI-enabled autonomy allows MAYHEM 10 to maintain mission effectiveness in contested environments characterized by jamming, spoofing, degraded communications, or denied navigation, while reducing operator workload. Built on a Modular Open Systems Approach, the system is designed to support rapid payload integration, autonomy upgrades, and continued adaptation to evolving mission requirements, operational networks, and threat conditions.

AV stated that MAYHEM 10 is intended to provide commanders with additional flexibility and options for distributed, multi-domain operations while reducing risk to personnel and high-value platforms.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
