Adam has worked in the Water sector since 2011 and worked in both the regulated and non-regulated water sector. Adam has occupied roles across leakage, strategy & regulation, Innovation and Smart Networks. Adam has recently taken the role of Head of Asset Management & Water Quality, ensuring Yorkshire Water develop and deliver an AMP8 programme across catchment, treatment, distribution and customer demand to achieve the challenging customer outcomes and protect public health. Adam Champions Smart Technology use in source to tap solutions, to inform and improve asset management and operational decision making in AMP8 and beyond.

Andrew Tucker

Water Demand Reduction Manager, Thames Water
Andrew Tucker

Andrew is the Demand Reduction Manager at Thames Water and is responsible for strategic direction of water savings through smart metering, water efficiency and customer engagement. He was previously Thames Water’s head of water efficiency. Key responsibilities include Thames’ strategy lead for AMP7 and AMP8 demand reduction programmes and targets across London and Thames Valley. He is overseeing the development and delivery of multiple initiatives on household and business customers - delivered in parallel with Thames Water’ smart metering rollout.
Andrew is also Thames representative on all external demand management policy and regulation, leads on public and stakeholder engagement on key water resource and efficiency matters.

Angela MacOscar

Head of Innovation, Northumbrian Water Group
Angela MacOscar

Dr Angela MacOscar is Head of Innovation at Northumbrian Water. A PhD physical chemist, with a passion for innovation. She helps businesses embed an innovation culture, creates effective processes and strategies that results in purpose driven innovation output. Leveraging her cross sector expertise, she has a track record of business building product and commercial innovations across multiple fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) categories. Notably managing the front end innovation pipeline of a billion dollar franchise. Angela is a strategic thinker who thinks ‘out of the box’ to create novel solutions. Highly collaborative, maximiser of ideas and provides focus by making the complex simple.

Bob Taylor

CEO, Portsmouth Water
Bob Taylor

Bob Taylor has over 40 years’ experience of the global water industry and is currently Chief Executive Officer of Portsmouth Water. Owned by Ancala Partners, Portsmouth Water has a 160 year plus history of providing water services on the south coast of the UK, today serving a population of around 800,000. The Company has a well established reputation as one of the consistently best performers in the sector and has recently embarked on the first major reservoir project to be built in the UK since privatization.

Chris Murray, MBE

Chris Murray, MBE

Chris is Chairman of WRSE with a background of 45 years’ experience in the UK Energy sector where his remits covered Asset Management, Change and Stakeholder Management, Employee and Customer Engagement, Health and Safety, Gas and Electricity Transmission, Gas Distribution, and Network Operations.
In addition to being a 3 time CEO, Chris has over 25 years of Non-Executive experience, is Chair of Northern Powergrid’s Independent Stakeholder Group and sits on the Boards of the MS Society and the Leicestershire Hospice. Chris has held numerous previous Non-Executive roles including being Chairman of National Grid Gas plc and National Grid Electricity plc.
 

Doug Spencer

Head of Smart Metering, Anglian Water
Doug Spencer

A biology graduate, Doug joined AW in 1991 as a lab technician, moving on to Innovation working on process optimisation and control. In 1996 he joined operational water quality as a network scientist. After gaining his MSc, managing strategic science and AMP 3 plumbosolvency programmes Doug moved to leakage in 2006 initially as West Engineer then the central management team delivering the consumption monitoring and customer leakage programmes. In 2016 he joined metering as project manager for Smart AMI and is now Head of Smart Metering. Doug is a former member and chair of the CIWEM Scientific Group Committee.

Flavio Oliveira

Director, Water Supply Department, Águas e Energia do Porto
Flavio Oliveira

Civil Engineer specialised in Hydraulics in University of Porto – Faculty of Engineering, with more than 10 years of experience in Water Supply Systems Management, Water Loss, Non-Revenue Water, Water Safety & Security, Contingency & Emergency Plans, and Integrated Water Cycle Management.
He is currently the Water Supply Director of Águas e Energia do Porto, being responsible for several strategic projects of the utility, making it one of the best and most recognized utilities at national and international level in the water sector. He was until the Manager of the Water Supply Unit, responsible for part of the areas, having previously been Responsible for the Water Meters Area of the same utility.
He holds a postgraduate degree in General Business Management from Católica Porto Business School, and he’s regularly responsible for academic internships & master and doctoral theses orientation.
Member of the Water Distribution Systems Committee, of Portuguese Water Systems Association, he is the actual Coordinator of this Committee, and member of the Specialist Group on Water Loss of the IWA (International Water Association).
Author of multiple technical articles and communications in the area, with presentations at national and international Conferences.

Jeannette Henderson

Jeannette has over 20 years' experience working collaboratively to develop and deliver a wide range of policy, strategy and transformational change programmes in central and local government. At Ofwat Jeannette is part of the team with oversight of the Innovation Fund, in particular focussing on future development of the fund and ensuring a robust evaluation framework is in place to inform future policy. Jeannette also leads work to enable closer, more effective working between water sector regulators to support innovation, including setting up StreamLine a regulatory advice service for businesses and a project aimed at understanding what data is collected and held by the regulators, what can be shared and what can be made open data.

Jeremy Heath

Innovation Manager, Sutton and East Surrey Water
Jeremy Heath

With more than 30 years' experience in the Water Industry, and a background in both mechanical engineering and database applications, Jeremy is responsible for the management of innovation within SES Water. He has a keen interest in innovations that will transform how we manage our water networks, in particular smart metering, smart networks, artificial intelligence and IoT communications. In addition to his role at SES Water, Jeremy is also the lead for the UKWIR national zero leakage project and is responsible for driving the UK leakage research programme.

Julian Webster

Water Net Zero Engineering Manager, Affinity Water
Julian Webster

With over 15 years’ experience in the water industry, and a background in design and engineering solutions, Julian is responsible for the delivery of ‘Project Zero’ an Ofwat funded project being led by Affinity Water. The project is structured over seven workstreams, these encompass smart metering, innovation and technology, policy and regulation, and the establishment of a "Water Trading platform. Having worked within Developer Services for over a decade he understands the challenges faced by a growing population and climate change, and is using his expertise on developer customers, regulation, and technical solutions to explore the opportunities water neutrality presents.

Kevin Murray

Kevin Murray is the Metering & Conservation Technical Manager at Uisce Éireann (Irish Water) and a Fellow of Engineers Ireland. Kevin has been involved with water metering projects for over 20 years, including automatic meter reading. He is a member of the CEN TC92 and ISO TC30 SC7 working groups responsible for international water meter standards.

Mark Fletcher

Chairman, British Water
Mark Fletcher

Dr Mark Fletcher leads the Global Water Business of Arup and has been with the firm for 36 years.. An Arup Fellow and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He is an international thought leader on sustainable water management, nature-based solutions and water resilience and has worked around the world. He is Chair of British Water which represents the interests of UK Water and wastewater, supply chain companies and former Chair of the Water Industry Forum

Romminder Moondi

London Engineering Strategy Lead, Thames Water
Romminder Moondi

Romminder has over 30 years of experience in the water industry, specializing in Water Supply Systems. Throughout his career, he has focused on strategic asset investment planning, efficient capital investment and optimising operational performance. Currently, Romminder is London Engineering Strategy Lead at Thames Water. In this role, he is responsible for implementing new innovative approaches to meet customer priorities.

Romminder led the establishment of the Northeast London Smart System proof of concept – the largest smart system area in the country. This groundbreaking project leverages digital twins for real time data integration, advanced analytics incorporating flow, pressure and acoustic data, dark fibre for enhanced leak detection and SCADA automation for improved response times and reduced energy use.

Sam Bright

Sam Bright

Sam joined the water industry in 2012 and has experience in roles within front-line operations, asset management, innovation, and digital product management across multiple UK water companies. He is passionate about expanding the use of technology within the sector and currently leads a large portfolio of data-driven solutions supporting Thames Water’s water operations and asset management teams.

Stephen McIntosh

Stephen has worked for Scottish Water for 24years having undertaken roles in many areas of the business including Digital, Supply Chain and Operations during that time. For the past 12years Stephen has held the position of Market Data & Programme Manager in the Revenue & Wholesale Services function at Scottish Water, delivering Scottish Waters wholesale service within the wholesale/retail market setup in Scotland.

Having established Scottish Waters Smart Metering pilot in 2020, Stephen is Chief Product Owner for the national roll out.
 

Steve Formoy

Steve Formoy

Steve Formoy leads the strategic metering programme in the non-household water market, working closely with representatives from wholesalers, retailers, CCW and Ofwat.
In 2024 MOSL published the market’s first metering strategy on behalf of its most senior governing body, the Strategic Panel. The strategy set out a series of recommendations to help water companies realise the potential of smart metering for non-household customers.
As Finance Director, Steve is responsible for MOSL’s finance and operational team and is central to detailing its three-year business planning process and delivering on its strategy.
Steve has over 20 years’ finance experience, including 15 years at PwC and five years at Thames Water.

Stuart Watt

I have over 5 years experience working in the Utilities Industry. For 3 of these I was working on Smart Meter Data for Kier as part of their Anglian Water contract, before moving on towards the end of AMP7.
During this period we massively increased our installed meter stock to almost 1 million AMI meters and needed to start leveraging this investment into business benefit. We learnt about the challenges that AMI metering presents, both for rollout and for perception. Even within the Water Industry there are a lot of misconceptions that hampered business benefit delivery.

Tanya has 17 years’ experience in the water industry working as a Network Modeller, Leakage Manager and Project Management in Asset Strategy and Smart Solutions at SES Water. In her current role as Smart Water Strategy Manager, Tanya has a focus on helping to deliver a leakage reduction through a number of strategic projects, including iDMA; SES Water’s intelligent network.

    WHAT IS CPD?

    CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

    ‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

    CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

    Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

    CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

    There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

    For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

    CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

    TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

    Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

    ‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

    ‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

    The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

    As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

    Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
