Aaron  Knoll

 Aaron Knoll is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Spacecraft Engineering within the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London, and Head of the Imperial Plasma Propulsion Laboratory. Aaron received his Bachelors of Aerospace Engineering (2003) and a Masters of Applied Science in Aerospace (2005) from Carleton University, Canada. Aaron was awarded his PhD in Mechanical Engineering (2010) from Stanford University, USA, where he was involved with the research of instability driven electron transport within Hall Thrusters. Before joining Imperial in 2017, Aaron worked as a post-doc researcher (2009 – 2012) and Assistant Professor (2012 – 2017) at the Surrey Space Centre, University of Surrey, UK. The focus of Aaron's research at Imperial is towards the development of spacecraft propulsion technologies using alternative propellants, and novel computational methods for modelling plasma systems.

Andrew Bonwick

He is approaching 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, first with a law firm litigating insurance disputes, then working as Chief Innovation Officer in London for a major global broker. He joined Relm in 2024 to develop insurance solutions for the most forward thinking emerging industries.

Andy Grey

Andy Grey

Andy is a science and technology entrepreneur, financing and growing businesses seeking to commercialise research in sectors such as space, telecommunications and semiconductors. Andy is a scientist and engineer by background, with a Masters in Nuclear Physics and early career in satellite systems engineering and space imaging. He has worked with leading consultancy firms on technology development and £1bn mergers and acquisitions. Andy is passionate about growing the space economy, working with governments, research institutions and established companies to create attractive ecosystems for emerging space businesses. Andy is on the Executive Committee of UKspace and co-chairs the Space Exports Group.

Chris Elphick

Chris leads on venture capital policy at the BVCA and works closely with their members to promote the role the industry plays in the UK economy by supporting entrepreneurs and businesses. Chris was also a member of the Independent Advisory Board for the Digital Growth Grant run by Barclays Eagle Labs and is an adviser to the APPG for entrepreneurship. He has represented the BVCA on a wide range of influential consultations and reports, including the Patient Capital and Khalifa reviews.

Craig is UKSA’s Investment Director, leading the Investment, Innovation and Commercialisation activities at the UKSA.  Craig and the Investment Directorate forge strong relationships with space investors, suppliers and customers, create opportunities to bring new investment and revenue into the sector, and lead the delivery of growth-related Agency programmes.

Prior to this, Craig worked at SatixFy UK, where he helped grow the company from an SME to a public firm, spent five years as Innovation Lead for Space at Innovate UK, and six years at Airbus Defence and Space. Craig holds a PhD from Leicester University.

 Dan has worked closely with over 100+ UK space start-ups over the past three years, providing technical, commercial and investment advice. He has worked on a variety of UK Space Agency projects including; training VC investors on the space sector, supporting start-up boot camps and organising pitch sessions for start-ups to investors. He delivers a range of consultancy projects for international space agencies in the areas of technical roadmaps, technical expertise, and commercialisation advice. He is a Chartered Engineer and co-chairs the TechUK/UKspace Position, Navigation and Timing Committee.

Gianluigi Baldesi

 Dr Gianluigi Baldesi is the Head of Ventures and Financing Office at the European Space Agency with 20+ years of business and technology leadership experience for future aerospace missions in a cross-cultural environment. In his experience in the Agency, he has served several positions in the Technical and Space Transportation Directorate including the Strategy Department under the ESA Director General.

He holds a PhD in systems engineering from Supaero and Sapienza University of Rome and executive MBA from Columbia Business School and London Business School.

Jamie Lesser

 James Lesser is the founder of NewSpace Finance, a platform connecting investors with high-potential space companies and offering a CPD-certified executive program on space investment strategy. With 25 years in equity capital markets—raising over $1bn, primarily in natural resources—he brings deep experience in scaling capital-intensive sectors. He is a non-executive director of Mineral & Financial Investments Ltd. and an alumnus of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government and the International Space University. James advises space companies on funding strategies, market positioning, and investor engagement, helping bridge innovation and capital in the commercial space sector.

 Mark is the CEO and co-founder of Seraphim, an investment firm exclusively focused on SpaceTech domain globally. Seraphim launched the world’s first Space VC fund in 2016. Now operating Seraphim Space Accelerator on three continents, with >$350m raised for the seed stage alumni. Seraphim also operates a space growth fund, listed on the London Stock Exchange. Across these three elements Seraphim has built a portfolio of over 100 SpaceTech startups - the world’s most prolific investor in the space domain.

Mike Collett

 Mike Collett is Founder and Managing Partner of Promus Ventures, a venture capital firm based
in Chicago, San Francisco and Luxembourg investing in deep-technology startups. Mike has
been a venture capital investor in software and hardware for more than 20 years. Mike has
served on numerous Boards of Directors, including Rocket Lab, Spire Global, ICEYE, Halter,
Lunar Outpost, Chef Robotics, Gauss Surgical, Recycleye, and others.
Prior to Promus Ventures, Mike was Founder and Managing Partner of Masters Capital
Nanotechnology Fund, a venture capital firm. While working at Masters Capital, a hedge fund,
Mike invested in private technology software and hardware companies. Prior to venture capital,
Mike was a Vice President in Merrill Lynch’s Mergers & Acquisitions group.
Mike holds a BA in Math and BA in English from Vanderbilt University. He also holds a MBA in
Finance from Washington University in St. Louis.
Mike and his wife Paige have four children and live in Chicago

Nayen Pankhalia

Nayen Pankhalia

Nayen began in his career in banking followed by consulting at Bain & Company where he worked on strategic and operational projects in the mining, telecoms, and financial services industries. Thereafter, he joined a mid-market European private equity fund in the business services team and served as a director on the board of Morrison Utility Services.

More recently his focus has been on high-growth, high-potential businesses where he has had senior executive, advisory, and consulting roles in a range of sectors including biotechnology, hospitality, and fintech.
 
Nayen entered the space sector with the belief that it is entering an era of profound change and will transform human society in myriad ways. In his role at the Satellite Applications Catapult he leads efforts to increase the capital flowing into next-generation space start-ups and scale-ups.
 
Nayen holds an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge University, an MSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from Oxford University, and an MSc in Computational Statistics and Machine Learning from UCL.
 

Rachel Forster

Rachel Forster

 Rachel is an experienced business development lead and project engineer with a degree in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Glasgow. She specialises in bridging the gap between science and business, with a strong track record of helping innovative space technologies grow and scale. Over the past four years, she has managed space-focused business support contracts for UK government, including Unlocking Space for Investment and the Satellite Applications Catapult’s Technical Export Support programme. Rachel works closely with businesses seeking investment and with investors exploring opportunities in the space sector.

Alex is an Investment Director at Future Planet Capital. He primarily focuses on the UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund where is actively deploying the Defence & Security fund into pre-Seed+ deeptech startups. Alex also supports the Blue Ocean Fund that invests at Series A+. 

He began his career in high-tech start-ups and large engineering facilities in South Africa across R&D, Manufacturing, Effluent Treatment, Robotics, Marine and Renewable Energy. Concurrently he started and ran numerous entrepreneurial ventures ranging from a software development boutique to an international e-commerce business. 
 
In 2013, Alex pivoted into investments, working on private equity buyouts in Johannesburg. Upon relocating to London, he transitioned into operational improvement private equity and various transformation roles, including a stint at a FTSE 250. He now applies this operational knowledge across all the start-up Boards upon which he serves.
 
While start-ups and investing were always part of Alex’s career, in 2018 he focused solely on tech venture capital, coming back full circle on his early entrepreneurial and engineering roots. He is active in the start-up/VC world through his blog/vlog/podcast (The Tippy Top), mentoring, running webinars and training programmes, serving on panels and regular social media activity.
 
Alex graduated as a Mechatronics Engineer at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He also holds an MBA (with distinction) from the University of Cape Town, and London Business School.

Trisha Saxena

Senior Associate, NATO Innovation Fund
Trisha Saxena

 Trisha is a Senior Associate on the investment team at the NATO Innovation Fund, investing in emerging and disruptive technologies for the defence, security and resilience of the Alliance. She is particularly excited about the applications of space, quantum, and materials in these markets. Prior to the NIF, Trisha spent two years on the investment team at Seraphim Space, a global VC fund investing in the New Space industry. Before that, she was an Asset Management Analyst at HSBC, working across public market equities, fixed income, and quantitative strategy. Trisha holds a Masters degree in Physics from Imperial College London.

    WHAT IS CPD?

    CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

    ‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

    CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

    Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

    CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

    There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

    For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

    CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

    TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

    Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

    ‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

    ‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

    The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

    As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

    GLOBAL CPD

    Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
