SAE Media Group are delighted to announce the return of the Military Airlift and Air-to-Air Refuelling conference, taking place on the 29th and 30th November 2022 in Florence, Italy.

Building on our critically acclaimed 2021 edition, the 23rd annual conference remains the preeminent forum for the international air mobility and airlift community – providing critical perspectives from heavy and tactical airlift, rotary wing and AAR industries.

In light of growing operational demands, coupled with recent examples of military support to civilian authorities in the recent COVID-19 epidemic, means that there has never been a more important time to view how armed forces, industry and governments are developing this force multiplier.

Covering key mission areas such as resource pooling and sharing, humanitarian support, AAR technical updates and news from multi-national and national procurement efforts – this comprehensive conference remains the an essential calendar date for those in the airlift and AAR community.

Brigadier General Rebecca Sonkiss

 Brig. Gen. Rebecca J. Sonkiss is the Commander, 618th Air Operations Center (Tanker Airlift Control Center), Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. The 618th AOC (TACC) is responsible for operational planning, scheduling, directing and assessing a fleet of approximately 1,100 aircraft in support of combat delivery and strategic airlift, air refueling, global air mobility support and aeromedical operations around the world.

 
Brig. Gen. Sonkiss most recently served as the Deputy Director for Counter Threats and International Cooperation (J-5), the Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. The Deputy Directorate advised the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on all global and functional matters pertaining to stability and humanitarian engagement, security cooperation activities, the Chairman’s mission to the United Nations, countering weapons of mass destruction, countering violent extremist organizations, and Arctic and maritime operations. Her policy portfolio included global pandemic response, Afghan refugee resettlement, and security assistance to Ukraine.
 
Brig. Gen. Sonkiss graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1994. She commanded the 15th Airlift Squadron through two deployments, was the Vice Commander of the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, and commanded the 62nd Airlift Wing at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Brig. Gen. Sonkiss also commanded the 89th Airlift Wing, JB Andrews, Maryland, which is responsible for the worldwide special air mission airlift for the President, Vice President, cabinet members, and other senior military and elected leaders.
 
Brig. Gen. Sonkiss is a command pilot with more than 4,400 hours, including 1,377 combat hours in nine different Air Force manned and remotely piloted aircraft.

Colonel Barrett Golden

 Col. Barrett W. Golden serves as the Commandant of the Advanced Airlift Tactics

Training Center (AATTC) at the 139th Airlift Wing, Rosecrans Air National Guard Base, 
St. Joseph, Mo. Colonel Golden is a California native, graduated from Apple Valley High
School in 1995 and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1999 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Aeronautical Science. The Colonel also earned a Master of Science 
degree in Military Operational Arts and Sciences from Air University, Maxwell AFB AL 
in 2012.
 
Colonel Golden began his service in 1999 with the Air National Guard. He attended Air 
Force Basic Training at Lackland AFB and Command Post Controller technical school
at Keesler AFB.  He then returned to an assignment with the 146th Airlift Wing as a
traditional guardsman. Colonel Golden was selected in 2001 to attend Undergraduate 
Pilot Training. He received his commission from the Air National Guard Academy of 
Military Science, Knoxville, Tennessee in 2001, followed by Undergraduate Pilot Training 
at Columbus AFB, Columbus, Mississippi and initial C-130E training at Little Rock AFB, 
Arkansas. Upon completion, Colonel Golden returned to the 146th Airlift Wing where he 
performed pilot duties aboard the Lockheed C-130 as a traditional guardsman.
 
Colonel Golden began a full time Air National Guard career when hired as an air 
technician in 2009 into the Chief of Tactics position, 115th Airlift Squadron. Over the 
years, he rose to the rating of evaluator pilot in the C-130J aircraft.  He has deployed on 
numerous worldwide missions in times of peace and war. In 2010, Colonel Golden
deployed as the Chief of Tactics for C-130 operations, 455AEW, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. 
 
In 2011, Col Golden began a tour at the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center (AATTC), 139th Airlift Wing, St. Joseph, MO as an Active Guard Reserve in the United States Air Forces Reserves. He held a program manager position in the Advanced Tactics Aircrew Course, Assistant Director of Operations for the Development Division and Director of Operations for the Training Division within the AATTC.  In 2019, Col Golden took command of the 139th Airlift Wing’s Operations Support Squadron and switched back to the Air National Guard.  In late 2020, Col Golden came back to the AATTC as the Vice Commandant.
 
As a command pilot, he has flown over 4,000 hours, including Operation JOINT FORGE, CORONET OAK, IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, INHERENT RESOLVE AND RESOLUTE SUPPORT.

Colonel Peder Söderström

Colonel Peder Söderström
COL Peder Söderström was born in 1967 and is a native of Stockholm Sweden. In 1987, he entered the service as a fixed wing pilot. After Basic Flying Training, he started his career a fighter pilot at the 41. Fighter Squadron flying the JA 37 Viggen. He served as a pilot, commander and as a Viggen display-pilot during his tenure. In August 2000, he attended the Senior Staff Course at the National Defence College (NDC) in Stockholm, Sweden. After completing his first year at NDC, he was selected to attend the Air Command & Staff College at Maxwell AFB, AL.  There he earned a Master’s Degree in Military Operational Art & Science in 2002.
 
After completing a two-year tour at the Swedish HQs in 2004, COL Söderström was appointed to the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) Flight Test Centre as the Wing Commander Flying and as the JAS 39 Gripen Chief Test Pilot.
 
COL Söderström promoted to the rank of Colonel in 2010 and assigned as the Deputy Commander of the joint Swedish Armed Forces Helicopter Wing that same year. From 2013-2014 he was deployed to Afghanistan as the Director of Staff in the German multinational staff of ISAF HQ Regional Command North. After a successful tour, he assumed command of the joint Swedish Helicopter Wing, which he held from April 2014 until December 2017. In preparation for the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) Vice Commander assignment, COL Söderström studied Air Traffic Pilot License Theory and flew the Beech 90 GTX as part of his transition from fighter aircraft to cargo airlift. During spring 2019, he completed C-17 Pilot Initial Qualification at Altus AFB, OK and assumed responsibilities as the HAW Vice Commander in the summer of 2019. In the summer 2021, he assumed command as the first Swedish HAW Commander. 
 
COL Söderström is an experienced athlete in Military Pentathlon and in his spare time, he enjoys different activities such as cooking, skiing, biking, running and squash. He is married to wife Jenny for 23 years and has three sons: Harald 25, Alexander 23 and Victor 14. 

Colonel Sean Finnan

Colonel Sean Finnan

 Col Sean M. Finnan is the commander, 86th Operations Group, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. He commands one of the most busy and diverse operations groups in the Air Force, with assets that provide the European and African theatres with DV airlift, aeromedical evacuation support, combat-ready air transportation, and rapidly deployable equipment, supplies, and people. The 86th Operations Group consists of five squadrons, including an Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and a geographically-separated Air Base Squadron, and is home to more than 600 active-duty, Reserve, Department of Defense and local national Airmen. The group operates C-21A, C-37A and C-130J aircraft.

 
Col Finnan entered the Air Force in 1998 as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. His first assignment was as a Professional Development Instructor and Football Coach at the USAF Academy Preparatory School. Following undergraduate pilot training and C-130 training, Col Finnan was assigned to the 517th Airlift Squadron as a Tactics Officer and Central Scheduler. In 2005, he was assigned to the 61st Airlift Squadron, where he served as a Flight Commander and Chief of Standardization/Evaluation. He graduated from the USAF Weapons School and in April 2008, he was assigned as Assistant Director of Operations in the 29th Weapons Squadron. In October 2008, he served at the Pentagon in the Directorate of Special Programs, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition). Following training in the C-130J, he was assigned as the Director of Operations and then the Commander, 86th Operations Support Squadron. He also flew as an Instructor Pilot with the 37th Airlift Squadron. He then served as the Executive Officer to the Commander, United States Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa. 
 
Prior to his current assignment, Col Finnan was a Senior Developmental Education Student at the U.S. Naval War College, Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. He is a command pilot with more than 3,100 hours and has served in AETC, PACAF, AMC, ACC, and USAFE.
 

Franck Verdierre

As a military transport pilot (C160), he has taken part in numerous civilian and military operations. He has logged 5500 FH and more than 200 missions over hostile territories.

He left his squadron as squadron commander in 2007 and has been then involved in mulitnational projects

Jose Gustavo

Jose Gustavo started his career at the Portuguese Air Force/Ministry of Defense as an F-16 Program Manager/Fleet Manager (1997) where he stayed until 2007 with different responsibilities such as ASIP (Aircraft Structural Integrity Program) Manager, Falcon Up/Falcon Star Manager, Mid-Life Update Manager, F-16 deputy-fleet manager. After that, he represented Portugal at the NATO Headquarters Air Component Command in Izmir, Turkey (2007-2010). In 2010 he joined the Portuguese Air Force Commander Staff, taking part in several Air Staff projects. In April 2013 he joined OGMA (MRO Services, part of the Embraer Group) as a Sales Manager and in December 2013 he joined Embraer Defense & Security Sales and Business Development team.

He has an Aeronautical Engineering degree from the Portuguese Air Force Academy and Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon, 1991-97) and post-graduate degree in International Relations (Lisbon, 2004), Sales Management (Lisbon, 2017) and several Executive Management Programs.
At Embraer Defense & Security, he has been responsible for several markets including Europe, Middle East and Africa, leading and winning major sales campaigns.
 

Jose-Luis De Miguel Cortes

 José-Luis de Miguel was named Head of Product Marketing at Airbus Defence & Space based in Madrid (Spain) in January 2016. As responsible for Product Marketing, he directs all Marketing activities related to Airbus Defence & Space 

products, with the focus on Military Aircraft and Space Systems. 
 
Previously he had been Head of Process Integration for Airbus Defence & 
Space based in Ottobrunn (Germany) (2013-2016), being responsible for the integration and improvement of the divisional activities through the deployment of global processes and lean practices.
 
Before that, José-Luis had been responsible for Software Development and Systems Engineering at Cassidian based in Getafe (Spain) taking care of development activities of all Air Systems related projects, including among others EF Typhoon Enhancements, Atlante Tactical UAS and concept & demonstration activities for HALE/MALE UAS and Future Combat Air Systems.
 
José-Luis was previously the Head of Strategy of the Cassidian Air Systems 
Business Unit based in Manching (Germany) and prior to this, he was part of the EADS Sales & Marketing team for Eurofighter Typhoon (Ottobrunn, Germany). José-Luis joined EADS (-CASA) in Spain in 2000. He served in various 
engineering positions during his early career years, mainly related to Aircraft Preliminary Design and Flight Control Systems Design & Test.
 
José-Luis earned a Masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (including a 1 year exchange at Stuttgart University), with the focus on Aircraft Design, Propulsion and Missiles. During his university years he also collaborated with The von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (Brussels, Belgium) in gas turbine related research activities.

Laurent Donnet

Laurent Donnet

Laurent Donnet is working as a freelance aviation expert consultant since November 2016 at AviDonn Consulting and still a colonel at the Belgian Air Force Reserve.

He joined the Royal Military Academy in 1985 and graduated as a military pilot in 1990. He served on F-16 from 1991 until 2007 and totalizes 2100 flying hours on the type, including 120 war missions. He flew during the first weeks of Operation Allied Force in 1999 over Kosovo and was the first commander of the initial Belgian F-16 detachment in Afghanistan in 2005.
After his operational assignments, he attended Staff College in Paris and worked at the Belgian Joint Headquarters’ Strategy Department in the Capabilities Development Branch as air expert and advisor to the Chief of Defence. He subsequently joined the European Defence Agency (EDA) in April 2009 in the Capabilty Development Directorate and stayed until October 2016. First, as Project Officer in Deployability where he tackled strategic air and sea lift issues, then as Programme Manager for Airlift and AAR. He was in charge of several ventures, out of which EDA’s European Air Transport Fleet partnership signed in 2011 by twenty Member States. He led the multinational C27J and C295 projects as well as AAR initiatives like one dealing with A400M aerial refuelling role equipment and another one regarding AAR clearances and certification. In 2012, he initiated an AAR project that resulted into the now well-known Multinational MRTT Fleet Programme. He was also the EDA expert for Jet Pilot Training providing inputs for the Advanced European Jet Pilot Training (AEJPT) Programme hosted by the EDA from 2008 to 2012.

Lieutenant Colonel Derek Rankin

Lieutenant Colonel Derek Rankin

Lieutenant Colonel Derek R. Rankin is the Chief of the Airlift Coordination Cell at the NATO Deployable Air Command and Control Centre, Poggio Renatico, Air Base, Italy. He is responsible for the management and coordination of all fixed and rotary wing aircraft allocated for air transportation tasks for the Joint Force Air Component of NATO. 

 
Lt Col Rankin is originally from Hagerstown, MD and was commissioned at the Virginia Military Institute in 2005. After graduating from Combat Systems Officer Training in 2006, he served as a C-130E/Hercules Instructor Navigator and Executive Officer at Yokota Air Base, Japan conducting worldwide air-land and airdrop missions providing humanitarian aid across the Pacific Theater. Following his graduation from pilot training in 2011, he served as a KC-10A Aircraft Commander and Flight Commander at Travis AFB, CA deploying numerous times in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and INHERENT RESOLVE. Next, Lt Col Rankin was selected to serve at the Air Force Personnel Center at Joint-Base San Antonio- Randolph. During this assignment, he served as the Chief of Mobility Air Forces and Special Operations Forces Assignments and subsequently as the Deputy Chief of Assignment Programs where he provided talent management and career development initiatives for the United States Air Force. Following his time on the AFPC Staff, Lt Col Rankin attended the School of Advanced Study of Air Mobility at the United States Air Force Expeditionary Center at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst culminating with a Master of Science Degree in Operations Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Prior to his role with NATO, Lt Col Rankin served as the Commander of the 32d Air Refueling Squadron, where he was responsible for the training, scheduling, and employment of 30 combat-ready KC-10 crews in support of JCS-directed worldwide mobility missions at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. 
 
Lt Col Rankin is a Senior Pilot with over 3,500 flight hours, including over 1,200 combat hours.

Lieutenant Colonel Harald Struzyna

 LtCol Harald Struzyna was born on the 27th of November 1961 in Brunsbuettelkoog Germany.

He joined the German Armend Forces on July 1st 1982.
 
After finishing the German Air Force Officers School his first assignment was basic training for military personel in Ulmen, Germany as well as Budel Netherlands.
 
His final training mission was for non-commissioned officers in Husum Germany.
The first assignment in logistics started in Erding Germany as Squadron Leader of a Transportation Squadron. Other assignments were Branch Chief of the Railroad Section Mecklenburg/Vorpommern followed by an assignment in the German Air Transport Command in Muenster.
 
Eight years, 2005 – 2013, in the Movement and Transportation Division of the German Armed Forces Command USA and CA in Dulles Virginia followed.
 
From 2013 until 2019 he was Branch Chief Air Transport in the German Logistics Center in Wilhelmshaven.
 
Since October 1st, 2019 he is the Commanding Officer of the Strategic Airlift International Solution SALIS at Eindhoven Airbase Netherlands.
 

Lieutenant Colonel Isaiah Oppelaar

Lieutenant Colonel Isaiah Oppelaar

 Lieutenant Colonel Isaiah L. Oppelaar is the Air Mobility Strategist, Joint Air Power Competence Centre (NATO), in Kalkar, Germany. In this role, he executes the JAPCC Program of Work for air mobility including leading the Global Air to Air Refuelling interoperability and compatibility efforts, supporting AIRCOM’s Specialized Heavy Air Refuelling Course (SHARC), and supporting the Military Committee Joint Standardization Board as the Chairman of the Air to Air Refuelling Working Group. 

 
Lt Col Oppelaar received a regular commission into the United States Air Force in 2005 as a 
graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He received his “Wings” and pilot rating from Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, and then was selected to fly the venerable KC-135R/T. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the USAF Weapons School, recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Graduate Award, and holds a Senior Pilot rating with more than 2500 hours in the T-37, T-1, KC-10, and KC135R/T. Lt Col Oppelaar’s flying experience includes multiple deployments in support of operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, and UNIFIED PROTECTOR and has more than 130 combat missions in the skies over Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. 
 
Previously, Lt Col Oppelaar served as the Commander, 340th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. In this role, he led more than five hundred rotational Total Force Air Mobility Command personnel from more than fifteen different units, flying thirteen KC-135R/T and one C-21 aircraft in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, Operation FREEDOM SENTINEL, and Operation SPARTAN SHIELD.

Kingdom. He leads the United States Air Forces in Europe's only air 
refueling squadron and is responsible for the mission readiness, mobilization, 
employment, training and standardization of 125 assigned aircrew and 
support personnel operating 15 KC-135 aircraft on worldwide air refueling 
missions. 
 
Lieutenant Colonel Berge graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 2003 and 
was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps 
program. He is a command pilot with 3,300 hours and has served as a KC-135 
instructor and evaluator pilot with multiple deployment through out Southwest 
Asia, Europe and the Pacific. Prior to his current position, Lieutenant Colonel 
Berge was the Deputy Commander, 100th Operations Group, Royal Air Force 
Mildenhall.

 Lt. Gen. CAPUTO is a graduate of the Italian Air Force Academy. He has been a “Military Pilot” flying G91/T jet trainer, a “Pilot Combat Ready” with A/Cs F104 and AMX, “Instructor Pilot” with the TF 104 G, AMX-T, MB 339 A/CD, SIAI 260, NH 500 Helicopter and “Check Pilot – Stan Eval” with MB 339.

He has commanded two flight units, one squadron, a fighter wing, and prior to becoming, on Feb 20th 2019, Chief of General Acquisition Department of the Air Force, he was the ITAF Deputy Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Combat Command, the Commander of the Aeronautical Military Sciences Institute, the Chief of Staff of the Air Combat Command, the Chief of Staff of the Italian Joint Operations Headquarter, the ITAF Deputy Logistic Commander and, from October, 2nd 2015 to July, 5th 2017, the 1st Air Region Commander.
 
Lt. Gen. CAPUTO has totalled over 5600 flight hours on 30 different types of aircraft and helicopters, in particular 3500 flying hours on the TF/F 104 fighters. During the Balkans and Kossovo Campaign, he was appointed as Chief of the National Operational Unit – AMX. At that time he flew 90 hrs in wartime with the AMX A/C.

Major/Dr Jacopo Frassini

 Maj Jacopo Frassini is a flight surgeon of the Italian Air Force since 2006 and holds a Private Pilot License. He specialized in cardiology and is currently assigned to the NATO Centre of Excellence for Military Medicine. He previously served as a base physician at the Aerospace Operations Command in Poggio Renatico AFB (Ferrara, ITA – 2006-2019). As a medical officer, he supported operations in Afghanistan (2010; 2012; 2014), Libya (2011), Kuwait (2014), Lebanon (2017; 2019) and Iraq (2018), deploying with both regular and special forces. He also participated in numerous exercises of the Joint Air Forces Component (ITA-JFAC) at national and international level (Virtual Flag 2013 and 2014 - NATO Trident Juncture 2015 - Joint Virtual Flag 2016) either in Current Ops Division or as Medical Advisor to the Air Commander.

Mark Brophy

Master Sergeant Mark Brophy enlisted in the Air Force in 1982 where he trained to be an aircraft maintainer (Crew Chief) on C-130 aircraft MSgt Brophy was assign to Little Rock AFB AK and then later to Elmendorf AFB AK.


After serving in the US Air Force MSgt Brophy return to his home in New Hampshire where he joined the NH Air National Guard (NHANG) working again in maintenance, only this time in the Maintenance Operational Command and Control (MOAC). While at the NHANG MSgt Brophy deployed to Pisa Italy in support of Operation Joint Endeavor. In 1998 MSgt Brophy was selected to be an Inflight Refueler or Boom Operator. Since then, MSgt Brophy has been involved in operation around the world from Operations Northern/Southern Watch, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn as well as many humanitarian relief efforts. With 20 years as a Boom Operator MSgt Brophy participated in countless operation and exercises logging a total of 4155 flying hours.


Now at Port City Air as Military Liaison, MSgt Brophy brings his military experience which helps the military aircrew have a seamless experience at PCA. MSgt Brophy can anticipate the specialized needs of military aircraft and crews. MSgt Brophy also conscientiously helps the aircrew with all their concierge needs, whether it’s arranging transportation, obtaining lodging or guiding our clients to the best places to visit.
 

 

Matt Kaslik

Matt Kaslik

 Matthew Kaslik is an international business development representative, Mobility and Surveillance, responsible for international sales campaigns on behalf of the P-8 maritime surveillance aircraft, E-7 Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft and KC46 Pegasus tanker. 

 
Kaslik joined the company in June 2020 after a successful 25-year career in the U.S. Navy. A former EA-6B Prowler Naval Flight Officer, he has vast experience leading aircrew teams in tactical squadrons. 
 
Before joining Boeing, he served several roles with the U.S. Navy, including 
deputy division lead and program manager for the Defense Information Systems 
Agency, and deputy director of the air traffic control tower on the aircraft carrier John C. 
Stennis, where he led all safety and operations involving more than 75 tactical aircraft 
and 650 personnel, including aircraft launch and recovery operations, maintenance and 
fueling effecting more than 1,300 combat sorties. 
 
Kaslik concluded his U.S. Navy career with a three-year assignment as deputy 
director of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the “Blue Angels,” where he 
coordinated and supervised the performance of eight departments run by 130 elite U.S. 
Navy and Marine Corps squadron professionals. 

Simon Johns

Simon Johns

 Simon Johns was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. He has served as an infantry officer in the British and Australian Armies in a wide range of appointments, and on operations around the world. He is a graduate of the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College and holds a Masters Degree in Defence Studies.
Simon has extensive experience on the equipment procurement staff across a range of capabilities. These include the procurement and sustainment of IT systems, soldier modernisation programmes, and mounted and dismounted combat systems.

Before joining Embraer, Simon worked for Lockheed Martin as the business development lead for a range of armoured vehicle opportunities. He was also responsible for growing the Ground-Based Air Defence C4i portfolio worldwide.
Simon is now responsible for promoting Embraer’s portfolio across Europe and Africa. This includes the C-390 Millennium Multi-Mission Tactical Airlifter; the A-29 Super Tucano Light Attack & Advanced Trainer; and the C4i, Cyber, Space, Sensor and IT technologies offered by Embraer’s subsidiaries; Visiona, Tempest and ATech.

Stefano Porreca

After achieving a master degree in Aeronautic Engineering, he began his career in the Leonardo Aircraft Division Engineering department in 1998, as a specialist in hydraulic equipment primarily involved in the Eurofighter and AMX programs. 

In the following years he continued working in the Engineering department, first (2000 to 2001) in the Flight Mechanics office, contributing to the development of the Eurofighter autopilot, and later (2002 to 2003) in the Avionics office, as the responsible for the development and qualification activities of the new displays to be integrated in the Tornado aircraft in the frame of the Display System Upgrade program.
 
In 2004 he became Chief Engineer, in charge of coordinating all the Leonardo Aircraft Division Engineering department activities relevant to the ATR Special Versions aircraft program. In this role, he supervised all phases of the Side Looking Airborne Radar integration on the Italian Coast Guard ATR 42 MP aircraft, including design, installation, testing, certification and delivery.
 
Since 2006 he is responsible for all Special Versions aircraft in the Sales Engineering function of the Marketing and Sales department. In this role, he provides technical support to all marketing and sales activities. Main tasks include presentation to potential Customers of Leonardo Aircraft special versions solutions, Customers’ requirements analysis, aircraft configuration definition and tailoring, preparation of technical documentation in the frame of commercial offers and participation to negotiations with Customers and Partners. 
 
In 2009 he achieved the Project Management Professional® certification.

Stephanie Pratt

Stephanie Pratt is an aviation professional with over 20 years of aviation experience. In addition to holding her pilot's license, Pratt has a degree in Aviation Management. Pratt has extensive knowledge of customs regulations and immigration including aircraft import and exporting. Working with commercial airlines, private aviation and fixed-base operators (FBOs) she has extensive knowledge throughout her industry. 

 Among her achievements, Pratt directed the operational restructuring of a regional fixed-base operator (FBO).In this role, Pratt streamlined, upgraded, and expanded the charter department’s capabilities and services, transforming an informal sluggish operation into a widely known and highly regarded world-class facility. Pratt’s performance and leadership were significant drivers increasing profit margins and the parent company's 
overall productivity. 
 
A pragmatic visionary, Pratt’s primary focus is aviation fuel. Beyond understanding and upholding existing industry guidelines and standards, including quality, handling, and operational best practices, Pratt is taking a 
step into the future working alongside colleagues and industry experts finalizing plans and proposals which will bring sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the region. 
 

Tony Frese

Tony Frese

 Tony G. Frese is Vice President, Business Development for Air Mobility & Maritime Missions (AMMM) programs at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Marietta, Georgia. In this role, Mr. Frese leads the Domestic, International, and Commercial Business Development teams in the pursuit and capture of AMMM business to include tactical and strategic air mobility as well as aerial tanker aircraft lines of business. 

Mr. Frese was previously the Vice President, AMMM Domestic Programs, responsible for leading company’s U.S. Government air mobility and maritime missions operations. Prior to that, he was the vice president and deputy program manager for the C-130 Program, and he had a number of previous roles leading teams supporting both domestic and international customers. 
 
Mr. Frese began working at Lockheed Martin in 1985, steadily progressing through positions of 
leadership in the areas of Reliability & Maintainability, Advanced Design, C-130J Engineering and as the program C-130J director for Italy, Canada, Special Missions, U.S. Government, and Foreign Military Sales programs. 
 
He began his career as an aerospace engineer supporting NASA on the Space Shuttle Program 
in Houston. Mr. Frese is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering. He is a two-time recipient of the 
Nova Award, Lockheed Martin’s highest employee award, which is awarded to those employees 
who have made outstanding contributions in fulfilling missions and objectives. 
 
Mr. Frese is an avid fisherman and enjoys golf, boating and volunteering at his church. He and 
his wife, Skotti, have two children. The couple lives in Dawsonville, Georgia.

    WHAT IS CPD?

    CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

    ‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

    CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

    Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

    CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

    There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

    For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

    CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

    TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

    Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

    ‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

    ‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

    The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

    As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.
