Ms Ilse Kroesen

System Integration Manager Individual Soldier, Defence Materiel Organisation, Dutch Armed Forces
Ms Ilse Kroesen

Since mid-2018 Ms Ilse Kroesen has working at the Defence Organisation Materiel on projects regarding equipment of the soldier. With her Msc degree and background as an Industrial Design Engineer the position as an System Integration Manager for developing an Individual Soldier System was a good match. In this role Ilse's responsibilities were to develop, test and deliver a modular system for personal equipment regarding a vest-system, ballistic protection and backpacks. Within this modular system articles needed to be interfaced, but also with other systems, like C4I, CBRN, clothing and helmets.
Since mid-2021 Ilse's role as a System Integration Manager has been expanded in chairperson for the coordination board of the individual soldier. The main goal of this board is to coordinate the entire life time of the equipment within the cubic meters around the soldier and if needed giving advice in adapting new innovations. In these cubic meters different systems have interfaces with each other which has a huge effect on the capabilities and the performance of the soldier. Another important aspect is that the soldier has to operate in his own environment. For example, a soldier needs to sit safely and ready for action in a vehicle or in a Chinook. Ilse's communication skills assist in achieving the required coordination and synchronization between all actors.

    DSA Strategic Partner

TrekAce® Technologies Ltd., creates “Hyper Capable” Warriors through Ultimate Situational Awareness in Contested Environments, hence supporting warfighters where and when they need it most.

Our technology enhances performance and situational awareness by overcoming basic human limitations, amplified when you are under stress and/or extreme settings (loud noises, adrenaline, fatigue, fear, etc.) and information overlap and overload.

TrekAce® developed and commercialized “disruptive” technologies to enable sophisticated haptic (tactile) UX communication to replace, augment or supplant the traditional, cognitive demanding, visual and sound modes of communication between warfighters and between warfighters and robotics (MMI) and provides novel navigation solutions in both GPS and (AI) non-GPS enabled environments.

The company's granted patents worldwide recognize and protect the company's creation of a new tactile language and Software-only-non-GPS solution giving TrekAce® a monopoly position in this field.

Used by Tier-1 units and advanced Future Soldier Programs, and with its advanced AI & Robotic technologies, TrekAce® creates Hyper-Capable Warriors with:

    - Edge over (near) Peers – An extra empowerment over “traditional” advanced technologies.

    - Ultimate Situational Awareness – Leaving hands, eyes, ears & cognitive processing free for the task.

    - Non-GPS Reliance – Algorithm-based NPT, suited for the contested environment.

    - No Radio Chatter – Delivering commands & instructions through Haptic reception, suited for the contested environment.

    - Minimal Transmission – A ‘sentence’ of haptic commands is of bytes, suited for a contested environment.

    - Stealthy Communication – No screens, earpieces, or hand gestures. “The sound of silence.”

    - Focus On-target, not to-Target – Concentrate on the objective, not on how to get there - The Core will lead you through!

    - Team Coherence – Achieving common Situational Awareness. Looking, moving, and engaging together. Each from his subjective positioning.

Marathon Robotics provides Lethality Today to US, NATO, and Coalition Partners on four Continents. We’ve been selected by USMC to provide mobile trailers of Intelligent Robotic Targets at all key CONUS and OCONUS sites. We reinvent Live Fire Training with Intelligent Robots that look, move, and behave like real people. It’s the world’s most realistic live fire training: shoot one robot, the rest autonomously scatter for cover, or self-organize a swarming counterattack.

The 2022 National Defense Authorization Act describes our Autonomous Robotic Targets as “a vast improvement to training modality over existing systems and was value added in all training events/scenarios.”

Trevor Nash of Shepard Defence says: “The Marathon argument is very persuasive, but its challenge is to change a mindset - present for many centuries – that the aim of the range is to ‘train marksmanship.’ That mentality is wrong” overmatch and winning the firefight are more important.”

Marathon also cuts Range Modernization costs and time by 85% through ZIRM (Zero Infrastructure Range Modernization). No need to buy robots: use ZIRM cost avoidance to fund Technology-as-a-Service (TaaS) to rent robots for a week or year, with robot operators – 95% of them military veterans. Offices and rental fleets on 4 continents.

    WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

    GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
