Nexter Robotics

Gold Sponsor
http://www.nexter-group.fr/en

Nexter Robotics is a subsidiary of Nexter group fully dedicated to development of unmanned military and Security systems; the Company addresses 3 main segments of Robotic systems: - First segment is made up of small multi-missions tactical robots: This is NERVA family. These robots are highly robust (they can be thrown away, they are waterproof) and can be equipped with more than 20 different Modules to extend their basic 360° observation capability; so, a single system can be configured to address all-conditions Reconnaissance, CBRN detection, Counter-IED, and can also be equipped with Less Than Lethal weapons or others - Second segment addresses heavy robotic vehicles (wheeled and tracked) for Reconnaissance, Road Opening, Automatic Logistics Transportation and Combat. This range of products proposes semi-autonomous capabilities such as vehicle follower, automatic road following and, of course, basic navigation on rough terrain with automatic obstacle detection and/or avoidance. Thanks to these capabilities, these robotic systems are able to operate when radio is jammed and/or when GNSS is not available. They are protected again cyber-attacks. - Micro-UAVs are the core of the third segment; Nexter Robotics mainly focuses on the use of UAV to extend native capabilities of combat vehicle (“Augmented Vehicle” concept), especially to improve local situation awareness. These tethered drones can automatically take off and land on top of vehicles, and follow the vehicles at a height over 200 ft. These UAVs can be equipped with stabilized gimbal (day and thermal cameras) or with other sensors to fulfill the needs of current mission. Control and Command Stations (mounted or dismounted) can operate any product from these three segments (including several robots at the same time). Nexter Robotics products can equip combat vehicles manufactured by Nexter Systems mother Company, but are also available to any other vehicles manufacturer, as well as to Security and Defense End Users.

Microflown AVISA from the Netherlands is a trusted partner of several NATO countries in the field of acoustic situational awareness. Enabled by its revolutionary acoustic particle velocity sensor, the MEMS technology based Microflown transducer, AVISA delivers sensor nodes that are very low: • Size, less than 30 cm diameter • Weight, less than 2 kg • Power, around 2 W Because of this small footprint the intrinsically directional sensor nodes can be mounted on any vehicle deck. As these sensor nodes: • are acoustically speaking broad banded • have 3 D elevation capabilities they are able to detect, locate, track and classify all sorts of audible events, such as: • Small Arms Fire • RPGs • Mortars/ artillery • Drones and attack helicopters Hence, Microflown AVISA’s sensor nodes combine the traditional: • vehicle mounted gunshot localization systems • ground based sound ranging systems and they can be used (simultaneously!) for: • self protection: o of the vehicle itself o and because of its wide diameter “Acoustic Umbrella”: ? of the other convoy vehicles ? of dismounted soldiers • mobile sound ranging • cueing: o remote weapon stations o board canons o cameras o fire control purposes Two sensor nodes configured as a subarray on a vehicle deck are denoted CAMEL. Various vehicles networked create the CARAVAN then. Arrays of AMMS can be easily deployed from a vehicle standing still in a silent watch or firing mode.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
