Building off the back of a sell-out 2021 event Counter UAS Technology 2022 will return to Arlington, VA once again showcase the very latest technology in the market to ensure that DoD personnel, equipment and infrastructure are protected from the proliferation of drones

Furthermore, with the establishment of the US DoD Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office, (JCO) there is now a drive across the US Armed Forces to have a comprehensive and centralised approach to tackling the ever evolving drone threat facing the nation. Speakers will feature from leading US DoD agencies, international defence organizations and leading industry providers to give the best insight into Counter UAS priorities, developments and solutions to protect from UAS proliferation.

Assistant Chief Clint McArdle

Assistant Chief Clint McArdle currently serves as the C-UAS Operations Director at the U.S. Border Patrol Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Chief McArdle has served in multiple sectors along the southwest border as well as at Special Operation’s Group in El Paso, TX. He was also a co-founder of the CBP Unmanned Technology Operations Center (UTOC) in Summit Point, W.V. where CBP hosts its SUAS and C-UAS integration, testing, and training programs.

CAPTAIN (Navy) Ret. Dariusz Wichniarek is a director of Business Development in Advanced Protection Systems in Gdynia, Poland. He is a retired officer of the Naval Special Operations Forces, former commander of the Naval Special Operations Unit “Formoza”. He graduated from the Military Academy (Engineering) in Wroclaw, the University of Technology in Gdansk, the Naval Academy in Gdynia, the Joint Special Operations University at Hurlburt Field (now Tampa), the National Defense University in Washington, DC, and the Naval War College in Newport, RI, USA.
CAPT Dariusz Wichniarek was appointed to numerous positions in the Polish Navy and Special Operations Forces: a platoon leader in the Military Diving Center in Gdynia, a commander of the Combat Diving Group, an underwater demolition and weaponry systems officer, a senior specialist of the Naval Special Operations Department in the Navy HQ in Gdynia. In 2007 he was appointed a head of the Operational Planning Department in the newly created Polish Special Operations Forces Command HQ (POL SOFCOM). In 2009 he became a commander of the Naval Special Operations Unit “Formoza” (NSOU). In the years 2013/2014, as the first Pole, he served on the chief of staff position in the newly created NATO Special Operations Component Command in Afghanistan (NSOCC-A). From 2015 to 2018 he performed his duties as a director of the Strategy and Defense Planning Department in the Ministry of the National Defense in Warsaw, Poland. After retirement in 2018 he has held managerial positions in business, focusing on business development, protection and defense concepts, and implementation of modern technologies in security systems of critical infrastructure.
CAPT Dariusz Wichniarek completed numerous specialist courses in the country and abroad, which include: combat diving course, underwater demolitions course, special warfare course, parachute course, NATO Combined Joint Forces Special Operations Component Command Staff Officer Course, NATO CJFSOCC Operational Planning Course, Security Stability Transition and Reconstruction Course, Special Operations Combating Terrorism Course, NSOCC-A Staff Course, ISAF SOF Predeployment Training.
His awards include: a gold medal "For Merit for National Defense," silver medal "Armed Forces in the National Service ", "Star of Afghanistan", "Non-Article 5 NATO Medal", US medal "The Legion of Merit ".

Captain Rens Govaers

Captain Rens Govaers

Captain Rens Govaers joined the Belgian Armed Forces in 2010 as student at the Belgian Royal Military Academy where he graduated in 2015 with a master’s degree in Social and Military Sciences. After his graduation, he was assigned to the Belgian Airforce as a Force Protection officer. From 2016 to 2021, Captain Govaers was one of the responsible officers for the Airbase Security of Kleine-Brogel Airbase. Since his assignment to the Directorate General Material Resources in 2021, he is one of the members of the C-UAS Project Team which is tasked with the acquisition of C-UAS equipment.

 

Colonel Brian Neff

Colonel Brian Neff

Colonel Brian Neff is the Permanent Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He instructs students in a variety of classroom and laboratory courses, and leads the department’s 25 faculty, staff, and researchers in the instruction of approximately 1,400 students per year. Additionally, Colonel Neff directs an active research program including the Academy Center for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Research and maintains state of the art lab and test facilities.
Colonel Neff entered the Air Force in 1999 through Air Force ROTC at the University of Pittsburgh. He has deployed in support of Iraqi Freedom, where he was the Detachment Commander for the Joint Air Battle Staff. Colonel Neff was previously a permanent party faculty member at the USAF Test Pilot School and continues to serve as adjunct faculty, where he leads the test community in modernizing Electro-Optic flight test techniques. Prior to his current position, Colonel Neff was a squadron commander for the 746th Test Squadron, where he led the developmental test efforts for DoD global positioning system upgrades.
Colonel Neff is an accomplished flight test engineer with 573 military flight hours in 35 unique aircraft types. Additionally, he has 292 combat flight hours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Colonel Joshua C. Egan, PhD, is the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Head at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He instructs students in a variety of classroom and laboratory courses, and leads the department’s 25 faculty, staff, and researchers in the instruction of approximately 1,400 students per year.
A fighter pilot and test pilot, Colonel Egan has over 2,300 flight hours in over 40 aircraft types, but primarily in the F-15C/D/E, T-38A/B/C, F-16C/CM, and PA-200 Tornado. His PhD research focused on spread spectrum signals and artificial intelligence.

Colonel Tony Behrens is assigned to the Joint Integrated Air & Missile Defense Organization (JIAMDO), Joint Staff, J-8, under the Deputy Director for Force Protection at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Native to St. Louis, Missouri, Colonel Behrens is a 1995 graduate of Wentworth Military Academy, Lexington, Missouri.
A career Soldier, Colonel Behrens has held numerous air and missile defense leadership, staff and command positions from the platoon to general staff levels. He has deployed in combat on several occasions as a commander and staff officer from 2002 to 2014 and has served as an air and missile defense expert to senior military commanders, Army, Joint service and U.S. Congressional leaders.
Most recently, COL Behrens served as the Director, U.S. Army Fires Capabilities Development & Integration Directorate (CDID), one of the Army’s eight organizations responsible for the modernization and integration of warfighter capabilities.
Colonel Behrens holds a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, a Master of Public Administration and National Security Policy from Troy University in Troy, Alabama, and a Master of National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.

Dr Claudio Palestini

Dr Claudio Palestini

Claudio Palestini is working in the Emerging Security Challenges Division in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He deals with capability and technological development in a number of fields, including countering drones and other asymmetric threats. Before joining NATO, he has worked in European Union institutions, dealing with the satellite navigation programme Galileo and the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) deployment. He holds a PhD in telecommunication engineering from University of Bologna (Italy).

Dr Craig Robin

Dr Craig Robin

Dr. Craig A Robin is the Chief Executive Officer and owner of EO Solutions. Founded in 2022, EO Solutions is a physics and engineering company with technical and programmatic expertise in providing electro-optical technology solutions for multi-domain warfighting capability gaps.

Prior to starting EO Solutions, Dr. Robin was the Director of the Directed Energy Project Office within the Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO), Redstone Arsenal, Al. In that position, Dr. Robin was responsible for oversight and execution of research, development, prototyping, test, evaluation, procurement and fielding directed energy technologies and capabilities that address immediate, near-term, and mid-term threats, consistent with the Army’s modernization priorities.

Dr. Craig A. Robin was appointed as a Senior Scientific Professional (ST) in August 2017, and served as Senior Research Scientist (Directed Energy Applications), Technical Center, United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command/ Army Forces Strategic Command. In this role, Dr. Robin was responsible for the overview, execution, and coordination of programs in basic research, exploratory development, advanced development, and system integration in the technological and functional areas of directed energy weapons necessary to advance the pioneering development of revolutionary military systems and equipment.

Dr. Robin previously worked with Lockheed Martin Laser and Sensor Systems in Bothell, Washington as a Research Scientist from October of 2013 to August of 2017. Prior to that, Dr. Robin spent 10 years, from 2003 to 2013, as a Research Physicist and graduate student with the Air Force Research Laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dr. Robin holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon; a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico.

Dr. Robin is a member of the Directed Energy Professional Society, the Optical Society of America, the International Society for Optics and Photonics, and the Association of the United States Army.

Dr Jamey Jacob

Dr Jamey Jacob

Jamey Jacob is the Director of the OSU Unmanned Systems Research Institute and John Hendrix Chair and Professor of Aerospace Engineering in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University. His current efforts are focused on advanced air mobility and their enhanced operation in the national airspace for broader innovative applications. He is currently lead on the NASA University Leadership Initiative program WINDMAP to develop aviation weather solutions for advanced aerial mobility applications, including drones and urban air taxis, and is the director for the Counter-UAS Center of Excellence. He received his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1990 and his M.S and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992 and 1995, respectively. He was a National Research Council Summer Faculty Fellow in the Air Force Research Laboratory and received the SAE Ralph Teetor Award, the Lockheed Martin Teaching Award, and the OSU Regents Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards, among other mentoring accolades. He is a native Oklahoman and dedicates much of his efforts to STEM workforce development, tribal engagement, and increasing diversity in engineering and science.

Dr Mark Askelson

Dr Mark Askelson

Dr. Askelson is the Associate Vice President for Research—National Security Initiative at the University of North Dakota (UND). He recently served as Executive Director of the Research Institute for Autonomous Systems (RIAS), Associate Dean of Research for the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, and Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at UND. He has over 15 years of experience working with autonomous systems and over 25 years of research and applications experience with radar, including advanced applications involving radar polarimetry and phased array technologies. His areas of expertise include autonomous systems, testing and validation, and radar. His current research efforts include Detect And Avoid (DAA) systems, integration of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs) into the National Airspace System (NAS), and counter-UAS/autonomy. Dr. Askelson has led multiple UAS research efforts, including multimillion-dollar efforts focused on using both ground-based phased-array radars (development of the Ganged Phased Array Radar-Risk Mitigation System; GPAR-RMS) and cooperative data (the Limited Deployment-Cooperative Airspace Project; LD-CAP) for DAA. He is a lead in multiple ASSURE (Alliance for System Safety of UAS through Research Excellence) research efforts.

Lieutenant Colonel Adam M. Miller

Lieutenant Colonel Miller is the Program Manager for the Army’s Directed Energy, Counter-small Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-sUAS) Office, part of the Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO). His office is responsible for developing, integrating, testing, and fielding a low-cost palletized prototype laser weapon system capable of detecting and defeating groups 1 and 2 UAS threats. He previously served as the Executive Officer to the Director of the RCCTO.

He graduated from Ohio University in 2001, receiving his commission in the Air Defense Artillery. His initial assignment was in the 3rd Battalion, 62d Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, NY where he served as platoon leader and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In 2004, Lieutenant Colonel Miller was assigned to 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, Republic of South Korea (later Fort Lewis, WA) where he served as assistant operations officer and battalion logistics officer. In 2007, he assumed command of Foxtrot Company, 3d Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, SC.

Lieutenant Colonel Steven ‘Chuck’ Norris

Lieutenant Colonel Steven ‘Chuck’ Norris

Lt Col Steven “Chuck” Norris is the chief of the Air Base Air Defense Division, 9th Air Force (Air Forces Central), Shaw AFB, and counter-UAS cell chief. He is charged to organize, train and equip airmen to defend AFCENT air bases against airborne threats.

Lt Col Norris commissioned in May 2002 from the US Air Force Academy. “Chuck” is a Command Pilot with over 4,000 flying hours, including more than 600 combat and 2,200 combat support hours in the F-16C/D, T-38A/C, T-6A, MQ-1B, and MQ-9. His operational experience includes Operations NOBLE EAGLE, IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and INHERENT RESOLVE.

Lieutenant General (Ret.) Michael K. Nagata

Michael K. Nagata is a Senior Vice President and Strategic Advisor for CACI International; joining the company in December 2019. Retiring from the US Army in 2019 after 38 years of Active Duty, with 34 years in US Special Operations, his final assignment was Director of Strategic Operational Planning for the National Counterterrorism Center.
A native of Virginia, he graduated from Georgia State University, and first enlisted in the US Army as an Infantry Private, later receiving his Commission as an Infantry Officer in 1982 from the US Army Officer Candidate School.
He served in the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea before volunteering for Army Special Forces in 1984. Assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group, he served in both 1st and 2nd Battalions. In 1990, he was selected for a Special Mission Unit, and deployed extensively over several assignments there on contingency and combat operations.
From 1999 to 2000, he commanded the Army's Special Forces Qualification Course. In 2000, he returned to a Special Mission Unit as a Squadron Commander, and was involved in the initial combat deployments after the 9/11 attacks.
After graduating from the National War College in 2003, he served in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence. From 2005 to 2008, as a Special Mission Unit commander, he led multiple Joint SOF task forces across more than a dozen countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
He then served within the US Intelligence Community in Washington D.C. as a Military Deputy for Counterterrorism until 2009. He then deployed again until late 2011 to Pakistan as the Deputy Chief, Office of the Defense Representative at the US Embassy. Upon returning to the US, he served on the Joint Staff as the Deputy Director for Special Operations and Counterterrorism until 2013.
From 2013 to 2015 he commanded US Special Operations Command-Central, was responsible for Special Operations across the Central Command, and was heavily involved in the first two years of combat against the Islamic State.
LTG (R) Nagata is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Special Forces Qualification Course, the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the National War College in Washington D.C.
He and his wife Barbara have five children, and several grandchildren, who are the lights of their lives.

Lieutenant Kristopher Wrieden

LT Wrieden assumed his current position as a policy analyst of the Office of Maritime Security Response Policy at USCG Headquarters in June 2019. Shortly thereafter, he became a part of the USCG’s initial implementation efforts of C-UAS capabilities and contributed to the USCG’s inaugural domestic operation in September 2019, and 10 subsequent operations. He supports all USCG C-UAS operations, research, testing, training, and evaluation events.

Major Dennis Vermeulen

Major Dennis Vermeulen graduated the Royal Military Academy in 2003 and has been working in the Force Protection career field since. He has been working on NATO and bilateral surety issues and crisis response. He has been involved in C-UAS operations since 2016.
Major Vermeulen has been formally in charge of the Royal Netherlands Air Force C-UAS program since January 2021.
The C-UAS approach of this program is on combining military safety of air bases with flight safety, focusing on a interdepartemental cooperation in order to have an integrated C-UAS approach with civil partners and national law enforcement.

Bill is considered subject matter expert by the EW/C6ISR and C-UAS industry, Airport Operators worldwide, Ministry of Defense organisations and is security advisor to Dutch government parliament members on counter uas/drone, legislation and protection of Netherlands critical infrastructures.

Mr. Brad Pasho is a Foreign Military Sales Analyst for Axient Corporation supporting the Integrated Fires and Rapid Capabilities Office. He assists the Government in international engagements and sales of the LIDS weapon system to security partners and allies.
Brad has been involved in CUAS development since 2016 and in addition to the LIDS system has partnered with several different agencies to bring cutting edge CUAS technology to the battlefield including kinetic and energy weapons.
Prior to his CUAS work, Brad served as an Army Acquisition Officer with roles in Air Defense Command and Control, and missile technology.
Brad has an Electrical Engineering degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Bruce Preiss is the Director of Business Development for Black River Systems. He has 30 years of professional aerospace experience working for Private Industry, the Department of Defense, and Academia in a variety of mission areas. He is an expert in aerospace sensor systems, Counter-UAS systems (C-UAS), and Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A).
Mr. Preiss worked for many years as a civilian in the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). In the AFRL Sensors Directorate, he served as the lead for autonomy research and worked on projects tackling multi-domain, multi-phenomenology surveillance problems for intelligence analysts. Mr. Preiss also served as the Assistant Chief Scientist of the 711th Human Performance Wing where he led strategic planning for Human Systems Integration, data visualization for airborne and cyber systems, and research in innovative man-machine interfaces. Previously, Mr. Preiss was a Technical Advisor in the Space Vehicles Directorate working on innovative AF satellite programs and international R&D projects.
Mr. Preiss also served on the FAA UAS ID & Tracking Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) and supported the Technology Working Group to deliver tracking recommendations to the FAA.

Mr. Kelley received his Navy commission in 1984 upon graduating from the University of Utah NROTC with a Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science. He served in the United States Navy from 1984 – 1996, serving onboard Destroyers and Cruisers in 7th and 3rd Fleet. He attended the Naval Post-Graduate School 1989-1991, earning a Master of Science in Information Systems.
He continued his Navy career in the NAVAL Reserves retiring in 2007, with the rank of Commander.
Between 1996 and 2001, Mr. Kelley worked in private industry at Hughes Aircraft Company, OSEC as a Senior System Engineer and at EG&G as the Program Manager of the Radar Support Contract for PMS 465 Navy Radar Programs.
In 2001 Mr. Kelley left industry and joined NAVSEA, PEO IWS 6 as the CEC Surface Integration Manager, responsible for the integration of CEC with AEGIS and SSDS Navy Ships. In 2004 he was the PEO IWS point of contact to the Single Integrated Air Picture (SIAP) program. In 2006 he was promoted to the Director of Strategic Planning for PEO IWS 6 and was responsible for the Track Management, Display and Navigation systems strategic plans. In 2007 he received the Civilian Meritorious Medal for his efforts within IWS 6.
Mr. Kelley reported to MARCORSYSCOM in 2007 as the Team Lead and acting Deputy Program Manager for USMC CREW. He was responsible for the procurement, fielding and sustainment of USMC CREW systems in support of the Marines in OIF and OEF. In 2009 Mr. Kelley was selected as the Product Director for the CAC2S Phase II, responsible for the acquisition, development and procurement of CAC2S Phase 2 software and hardware. In 2012, he received his second Civilian Meritorious Medal for his efforts during the CAC2S Phase 2 Demonstration Contract and the CAC2S Phase 2 Engineering, Manufacturing and Development Contract source selection. In Sep 2012 Mr. Kelley was selected as the Deputy Program Manager AC2SN, responsible for the development, procurement and sustainment of CAC2S, CTN, MACCS Sustainment and TBMCS programs. In Dec 2016 Mr. Kelley received his third Civilian Meritorious Medal for leadership and institutionalizing Better Buying Power within AC2SN.
In Jan 2016, Mr. Kelley was hand selected to be the Chief of Staff for the Program Executive Officer, Land Systems (PEO LS). As Chief of Staff, he provided support to the six program offices which developed, fielded and sustained the light, medium and heavy tactical vehicles, amphibious assault vehicles, and the TPS-80 Radar systems, the M777 towed artillery and the CAC2S, TBMCS and CTN systems. In Aug 2018, Mr. Kelley was choosen to stand up the Ground Based Air Defense (GBAD) Program Office with the mission of rapidly developing and deploying the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) to meet the Counter – Air (Rotary Wing/Fixed Wing) and Counter –Unmanned Aerial Systems threat faced by our Marines. In coordination with and in support of DHS S&T’s Office of Mission & Capability Support (MCS), Jared oversees NUSTL’s Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) RDT&E portfolio, oversees the Operational Field Assessments (OFAs) program where NUSTL serves as an independent test agent to assess S&T-developed capabilities in realistic first responder use cases and operational settings, and oversees other NUSTL projects and associated personnel impacting first responders around the country.
Jared brings 18 years of experience leading organizations and individuals to accomplish a variety of military engineering missions worldwide—from rapid research and development to combat engineering and construction. He started his federal service in 2004 as a Platoon Leader with the U.S. Army where he was responsible for the welfare, training, deployment preparation and operations of 28 personnel in Ramadi, Iraq and Schweinfurt, Germany. He served for eight years as Chief of the Engineering Resources Branch, at the U. S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), growing a branch of 18 personnel to 57 and overseeing a varied RDTE program in cold regions pavements and materials, systems engineering, energy, and oil spill cleanup. Ken Dunlap serves as a UAS Security Specialist in FAA's UAS Security Division. In this capacity, he leads research and discovery efforts on drone mitigation, as mandated by Congress under Section 383 of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. Ken’s career spans both commercial and military aviation, crewed and uncrewed. He is the author of numerous reports on countering autonomous systems, the UAS regulatory framework, and leveraging safety culture and SMS for the industry. Ken has served as the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Homeland Security’s Aviation Security Advisory Committee (ASAC). He has also served as the Vice-Chairman of the Air Line Pilot Association's (ALPA) National Security Committee. He holds a M.A. in National Security Studies and B.A. in Government both from Georgetown University. Ken has logged thousands of hours as both a commercial airline and military pilot, holds a Part 107 license, and is an avid drone hobbyist.

Professor Snyder is an Assistant Chair / Director of UAS Program for the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences and Lead for Autonomous Platforms at the University of North Dakota (UND). He continues to be active in aviation education with experience as an FAA Designated Pilot and Instructor Examiner, an OEM certified Insitu ScanEagle UAS pilot, Chief Flight Instructor, Associate Professor, and Safety Consultant for various aviation organizations. As a DOT-certified SMS trainer, Professor Snyder is a member of UND SMS Committee and Events Review Team (ERT), analyzing flight data and conducting safety risk assessments to reduce risk within the organization. He has worked with the FAA to assist UND Aerospace in being recognized as meeting active conformance for UND’s Part 141 Pilot School and Part 145 Maintenance Repair Station under the FAA SMS Voluntary Program. Professor Snyder also actively teaches safety management systems, aviation safety, unmanned aircraft systems, and various advanced flight courses for the UND.

Mary began her Federal career with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at Pittsburgh International Airport, just after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Mary has spent the last 13 years as a Command Duty Officer at TSA’s Transportation Security Operations Center (TSOC) in Herndon, Virginia, where she has managed countless high-level security incidents and has vast experience in coordinating with all levels of government during ongoing events. Mary currently serves as a Program Analyst for Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) Program Management Office at the Department of Homeland Security Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans, under the Counterterrorism and Threat Prevention - Law Enforcement umbrella. She has coordinated more than 70 C-UAS deployments across the country and continues to provide government-level governance, oversight, and guidance ensuring the effective implementation of the Preventing Emerging Threats Act of 2018 and the Administration’s National Action Plan for C-UAS. Sarah Parker serves as the Air and Missile Defense (AMD) Capability Area Lead (CAL) for the Technology Development Directorate (TDD) of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Aviation and Missile Center (AvMC). The AMD Capability Area Lead serves as the primary representative for AMD Science and Technology (S&T) activities for all of DEVCOM and the primary representative for AvMC to the AMD Cross Functional Team, PEO Missiles and Space and various Program Offices.
Ms. Parker has served numerous assignments that provided oversight, guidance and direction for a variety of technology development initiatives for the U.S. Army. Her expertise is in infrared sensor and seeker development and system integration. She recently led a radar seeker development and system integration as chief engineer for a seeker-based missile program. She has also led several initiatives within the AvMC to investigate swarming missile and counter swarm UAS technologies.
As the DEVCOM AvMC AMD CAL, Ms. Parker sets the strategic direction for AvMC AMD S&T, leads the DEVCOM C-UAS Community of Practice, and oversees the AMD portfolio of missile interceptor, air defense radar and fire control technology developments in support of AMD modernization priorities.

And, as an acquisition practitioner, he has gained significant experience in the pre-concept capability development of aviation, Force Protection and CUAS related technology.

Currently, building on his CUAS acquisition experience, he is the Senior CUAS Requirements Mgr for the Royal Air Force (RAF). This role is embedded within the Joint Sensors & Engagement Networks Team (JSENS); which sits within the MOD’s Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) organisation. This role has been generated to cohere and exploit CUAS knowledge, skills and experience within DE&S, and support the delivery of the PRESAGIUM Option; the UK MOD’s long-term static-site CUAS capability requirement

    WHAT IS CPD?

    CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

    ‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

    CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

    Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

    CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

    There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

    For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

    CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

    TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

    Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

    ‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

    ‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

    The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

    As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.
