Joint Forces Simulation & Training

As defense budgets are squeezed and the nature of modern war fighting changes, military projects and procurement are increasingly focusing on the unification of air, land, maritime and special operations forces. As a result, a more holistic approach is being taken in the way training capabilities are delivered.

Countries are embracing the need to develop training tools and simulators that enable the forces to react quickly to any situation. In fact, the value of global military simulation and virtual training programs is expected reach a value of US$12.6 billion by 2024.

Returning for for its sixth year and following on from the major success of previous events, SAE Media Group are proud to present the 6th annual Joint Forces Simulation & Training Conference, 2nd – 3rd February, 2015, London.

As militaries focus on collectively implementing innovative simulation and virtual training systems that are both cost effective and successful in the delivery of training, this conference is a must attend event. Join us and be part of a major networking experience showcasing in depth discussions on joint forces training initiatives, plus a spotlight on current training tools which allow the development of strategic alliances and knowledge transfer, such as computer games and smart devices.

Key topics include:

Assessing how NATO Defence College is effectively extending simulative techniques throughout the alliance
• Implementing computer games as a ‘serious tool’ to keep military trainees motivated during training
• Meeting the challenge of providing operationally relevant and affordable training
• An assessment of the Connected Forces initiative

Virtual Role-Play for Joint Soft Skills Training

• Joint forces simulation and training must prepare trainees for full-spectrum operations and collaboration with coalition partners and non-governmental organizations. So-called "soft skills" are an essential component of this
• Conventional first-person shooter simulations and page-turning e-learning software do not provide sufficient opportunities to practice these skills
• For ten years Alelo has been developing effective simulation-based soft-skills training for joint operations, incorporating Virtual Role-Play
• Our Virtual Cultural Awareness Trainers (VCATs) serve as an extensive case study, used by over 50,000 trainees to date
• A new product, VRP MIL, provides joint trainers with a flexible Virtual Role-Play capability that they can easily integrate into their own virtual training simulations
• Evaluations of VRP MIL are now underway at the NATO Joint Force Training Centre in Poland

http://www.insyen.com

INSYEN AG specializes in creating specific, branded, high-fidelity models of our customers’ mission equipment for the growing integrated simulation market. Mission equipment is underrepresented in the Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) simulation world. Using simulations instead of costly operational exercises implies a commitment to ensure that every aspect of LVC training exercises be as close to real life experience as possible. Simulating complex sensors increases the training opportunities that can be provided to tactical and command staff by providing authentic intelligence sources, including their inherent limitations. INSYEN AG produces custom simulators and emulation systems based on VBS for mission equipment systems such as EO/IR sensors, synthetic aperture radars, sonar systems and electronic support measure systems. We process the virtual imagery created by VBS to match what would be shown on the real sensor displays and provide the correct user interfaces (software and hardware) to manage and use these simulated systems. Our emulation systems provide ICD-accurate interfaces to aircraft, naval and ground platforms with fidelity sufficient to perform integration and testing, based on the same simulation software used for training. By including accurate simulations of complex sensor devices in such simulations, we can reduce the number of surprises when this equipment is used operationally.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
