Border Security 2020 Conference

SAE Media Group are proud to announce its 13th annual Border Security Conference taking place in Rome on the 11th and 12th February 2020.

With the migrant crisis ongoing in the Mediterranean, issues emerging surrounding the return of foreign fighters and the ever-present threat of cross border criminality, Border Security stands at the forefront of planning for countries and international organisations.

Border Security 2020 will be a high-level conference, bringing together military staff, government figures and key individuals involved in enhancing border security capabilities of nations on a global scale. The conference provides an excellent opportunity to meet with key industry stakeholders and to hear from some of the world’s leading individuals.

Now in its thirteenth year, the event has established itself as a market leader in this sector, covering the most pertinent topics in border security year on year. Unlike other events, we strive to deliver real insight and learning experiences through the expertly selected speakers who run our presentations, ensuring the latest developments from all parts of the community (industry and military) are covered in detail.

SAE Media Group’s Border Security conference will return as the leading event for industry professionals and government officials around the world dealing with border security implementation, technological solutions and effective policing strategies. A truly global event, delegates will hear from government speakers, international organisations such as Interpol, euLISA, Airpol and IOM, as well as industry on the latest developments in the field of cross border security and countering threats.

    http://www.innovativetravelsolutions.ca

Innovative Travel Solutions (ITS) is the innovation team at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), voted North America’s Best Airport for 10 straight years by Skytrax World Airport Awards. Our team develops and delivers seamless technology that transforms the travel experience while improving airport performance. Designed with versatility, safety and security in mind, we are the industry’s largest and most experienced provider of kiosk-based self-service border control solutions, serving more than 250 million passengers at more than 44 airports and seaports worldwide.

BORDERXPRESS™ kiosks provide a modern and efficient experience and are a smart choice for airports and governments as they help to reduce overall operating costs and allow airports to expand passenger traffic without having to add additional space or staffing resources. The kiosks also free up border security officers to focus more closely on enforcement and intelligence efforts.

In 2018, ITS announced the installation of 74 BORDERXPRESS™ kiosks at Pafos International Airport and Larnaka International Airport in Cyprus. This marks a major milestone for the industry and ITS, as it is the first implementation of permanent kiosks for Entry and Exit border control in Europe. Following the demonstrated success of BorderXpress in Cyprus, the ITS team worked with airport operator Isavia and Icelandic Police to customize a solution for Entry control by implementing four BORDERXPRESS™ kiosks at Keflavik International Airport (KEF), as part of a six-month pilot. The pilot will yield information for airport operator Isavia that will make the process easier when the Entry Exit System regulations are fully implemented.

BORDERXPRESS™ uses self-service biometric-enabled kiosks to expedite the bor¬der clearance process without compromising security. The Entry and Exit process is the same, in that, at the kiosk, travelers select their language, scan their travel documents and answer a few simple questions. The kiosk also captures an image of each passenger’s face which can be compared with and verified against the photo in their electronic passport, though the kiosks do accept non-ePassports and EU Identity documents as well. Travelers then take their completed kiosk receipt to a border services officer.

    WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

    GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
